Welcome to USIEF

The United States – India Educational Foundation (USIEF) is dedicated to fostering mutual understanding between the people of India and the United States through educational exchanges involving outstanding scholars, professionals, and students.

Since its establishment in 1950, USIEF has awarded over 21,000 fellowships, funded by the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of Education, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and other key entities.

USIEF's core activities include

  • Administering the Fulbright-Nehru, Fulbright-Kalam, and other fellowships for Indian and American students, faculty, researchers, and professionals.

  • Managing EducationUSA Advising Services for Indian students aspiring to pursue higher education in the U.S.

  • Supporting Fulbright alumni initiatives to further strengthen educational and cultural ties between the U.S. and India.

  • Serving as a resource for fostering collaborations between higher education institutions in the U.S. and India.

Our offices in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad host academic and professional workshops, forums, mentoring sessions, and policy dialogues on contemporary issues, connecting academic communities, higher education institutions, and civil society in both countries. We actively engage Fulbright alumni in these sessions, amplifying the impact of their outstanding work across various disciplines.

As we continue to expand our outreach to underserved regions and communities through Fulbright and EducationUSA programs, we are gearing up to celebrate our 75th anniversary in 2025. USIEF is dedicated to working with both the Indian and U.S. governments on joint priorities in higher education, sharing knowledge, contacts, and resources to strengthen the robust U.S.-India educational partnership.
