Under this program, interested U.S. institutions submit proposals to invite scholars for one or both terms of the academic year to teach courses in area studies, in inter-disciplinary programs that focus on global issues, or in courses where participation of the foreign scholar can provide a cross-cultural or international perspective.<\/p>\n<div id=\"accordionExample\" class=\"accordion mt-5\"><!--\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\n\n<h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"headingOne\">\n                        <button class=\"accordion-button\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapseOne\" aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-controls=\"collapseOne\">\nAbout the program\n<\/button><\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n<div id=\"collapseOne\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"headingOne\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordionExample\">\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n\n\n\nThe Humphrey fellows undertake master's level work directly related to their professional needs and fields of interest but does not result in the awarding of a degree. They are assigned in clusters of 8-15 to the institution offering the most appropriate program in their area of interest. These clusters are balanced geographically, permitting interaction among fellows from various countries. The host universities are chosen for their excellence in the Humphrey fields and for the resources and support they offer Humphrey Fellows.\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n--><br \/>\n<!--\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\n\n<h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"headingTwo\">\n                        <button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapseTwo\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapseTwo\">\nGrant Benefits\n<\/button><\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n<div id=\"collapseTwo\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"headingTwo\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordionExample\">\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n\nAll FLTA fellows receive a monthly stipend, health insurance and travel support. U.S. host institutions provide tuition awards to support the required coursework. The FLTA program does not provide J-2 visas for spouses or dependents.\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n--><!--\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\n\n<h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"h3\">\n                          <button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#c3\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"c3\">\nTeaching\n<\/button><\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n<div id=\"c3\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"h3\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordionExample\">\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-body \">\n\nIndian academics and professionals contribute to the internationalization of the curriculum at their U.S. host institutions and the understanding of recent developments not just in India but globally. The recipient will teach courses individually or team-teach.\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n--><\/p>\n<p><!--\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\n\n<h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"h4\">\n                          <button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#c4\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"c4\">\nResearch and Teaching\n<\/button><\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n<div id=\"c4\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"h4\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordionExample\">\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n                            Applicants will carry out a combination of research and teaching activities at the U.S. host institution. They must specify the percentage of the grant for each activity and define this in the project statement. For instance, if the plan is to spend 60 percent of the grant duration for research and 40 percent for teaching, the project statement should demonstrate this allocation. Teaching could include courses (individually or team-taught) or a series of seminars at the U.S. institution.<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n--><\/p>\n<p><!--\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\n\n<h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"h6\">\n                          <button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#c6\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"c6\">\nAffiliation\n<\/button><\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n<div id=\"c6\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"h6\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordionExample\">\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n\nThe applicant will be affiliated to one U.S. host institution. USIEF strongly recommends all applicants to indicate affiliation preference, and to correspond, in advance, with potential host institutions. Applicants must be residing in India throughout the application, nomination, and selection process.<\/li>\n\n\n \t\n\n<li>\n                                Must clearly demonstrate maturity, dependability, integrity, and professionalism.<\/li>\n\n\n \t\n\n<li>\n                                Fluency in English is mandatory. A score of no less than 79-80 on the internet based TOEFL is required. TOEFL scores are not required at the time of application. Candidates recommended by the selection committee will have to appear for the TOEFL in November 2024. USIEF will provide fee vouchers towards the TOEFL exam.<\/li>\n\n\n \t\n\n<li>\n                                Indian applicants must have at least a master\u2019s degree by June 2025 with a good academic record. The master\u2019s degree should be in fields such as English language, English\/American Literature, American Studies, Linguistics, Comparative Literature, and related areas.<\/li>\n\n\n \t\n\n<li>\n                                A young teacher of English at the college level or training to become a teacher of English or is a young professional in a related field.<\/li>\n\n\n \t\n\n<li>\n                                Prior teaching experience is preferred.<\/li>\n\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<b>Important:<\/b> The FLTA Program is a non-degree and non-renewable program and those wishing to pursue degree studies in the United States should not apply. All FLTA fellows must return to their home countries upon completion of the nine-month program. No extension requests will be supported. No dependents are allowed to accompany fellows on this program.\n\nMaterial misinterpretation (e.g., plagiarism) at any time during the application or grant period is grounds for selection withdrawal or grant termination, as well as ineligibility for future participation.\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n--><\/p>\n<p><!--\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n\n\n<h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"h9\">\n                          <button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#c9\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"c9\">FLTA Applicant Profile\n<\/button><\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n<div id=\"c9\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"h9\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordionExample\">\n\n\n<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n\nFLTA candidates should be energetic, early career educators capable of succeeding in the dual role of teaching assistant and student. They must have a sincere interest in teaching their native language and culture to U.S. students. They should have leadership skills and the ability to motivate students to learn. FLTAs should have a desire to meet people and become a part of the community by participating in community events and campus activities. They should be creative and self-reliant team players, who are able to maintain excellent relationships with faculty, staff, and students. They must be open to living with their U.S. student peers in undergraduate or graduate level campus housing and engaging with faculty and staff with maturity and professionalism.\n\nPreference will be given to candidates who have little or no prior experience living in the United States. Fellows must be flexible with placements at smaller or more ethnically diverse U.S. academic institutions. At the conclusion of the program, Indian fellows will be expected to return to India, making an immediate impact by utilizing the skills gained and sharing the experiences gleaned from their time in the U.S.\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n--><\/p>\n<div class=\"accordion-item\">\n<h2 id=\"h5\" class=\"accordion-header\"><button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#c5\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"c5\"><br \/>\nApplication Process<br \/>\n<\/button><\/h2>\n<div id=\"c5\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"h5\" data-bs-parent=\"#accordionExample\">\n<div class=\"accordion-body\">\n<p>This is a program for which U.S. institutions of higher education apply. They can either name a scholar or request recruitment of one through the Fulbright agencies worldwide.
